Light on Yoga Fitness is offering a relaxation sound bath on January 2 at 4:30PM to help remind us all to chill and breathe during this holiday season. Robin plays her eight crystal singing bowls, chimes, and a rain stick to create a relaxing sound bath session.
Sound baths offer a chance to thoroughly relax, enter into deep meditative states, lower pulse and blood pressure, focus or rest the monkey mind, all of which can offer body and mind healing. In this sound-based meditation class, we’ll move through some gentle relaxation stretches and breath work prior to and after the sound bath.
Participants may opt to stay in a comfortable seated position but we recommend savasana on mats with pillows, blankets, eye masks, etc. Some people like to arrange their gemstone crystals around them during the session.
Sound baths use repetitive notes at different frequencies to help bring your focus away from your thoughts. By listening to, absorbing particular combinations of rhythms and frequencies, it is possible to shift our normal beta state (alert, concentrating, reacting) to an alpha (creative, relaxed), and even theta (meditative state) and delta (deep sleep; where restoring and healing can occur). Calming those three instincts should leave you feeling relaxed and recharged.
Recommended donation is $10 for the class and 50% of your donation will be given to the WISE preschool. The Woolley Institute for Spoken-Language Education is the only school in the state of Alabama dedicated to solely teaching deaf children to speak.
